Diary of a Coaching Start-up – Part 1; What’s in a Name?

Posted in basketball on August 31st, 2010 by Valeri – Be the first to comment

Part 1 – What’s in a Name?

The dream of entrepreneurship has been calling me. Softly at first (usually during a particular boring time at the day job), and building steadily overtime until recently when it has been roaring at me incessantly.

That dream of independent wealth. Living an extraordinary life; ripping off the shackles of wage slavery; taking control and becoming the master of my own destiny.

It has called – and I have answered – I’ve taken the magnificent and let me add scary step – the leap of faith to become a small business owner.

I can do this. I have the training, the skills, the talent, possible even personality – what more could one ask for?. Well…. that’s not a question to be taken lightly I have since found out.

Speak to any established business owner about a start up and they look at you with envy. Ahh… the stars in your eyes; that youthful drive and passion to pursue the dream of business ownership; the innocence. Like your family and friends (whose job it is to support you 100% no matter how deluded you are) the words of these business giants are supportive. They look across at you with knowing smiles of business gentry patting your ego you gently on the back saying ‘that’s great – I love it… BUT….’ And like sweet nectar honey words of business wisdom flow. They share the excitement for your vision – your ideas – your enthusiasm …but – always a but.

BUT you know just by looking at them that while the doors are open on their business, the passion has taken a coffee break – and they desperately need one, (preferably with a shot of hard liquor). I long for their experience, and they my naivety.

So with encouragement and a few words of the wise I begin my great adventure of start-up-dom. The first call of business is the registering my business name.

Do you know how many businesses are out there who just – coincidently I might add – have exactly the same name I want. What was to be such a simple exercise turned out to be a marathon. Talk about frustrating, I almost experienced my first business loss as the phone was ‘accidentally’ thrown at my computer screen during an altercation with the ASIC (Australian Name Register) website. I wasn’t naive enough to have just one name picked out either – a list of 8 some quirky some flat out simple, but all rejected. Ego bruised and two weeks later I hit the jackpot, and conclude if the name register was the first hurdle of red tape then maybe those buts were right – in this case anyway.

So the name I finally went with – Faith Matters – because lets face it if all business ownership is at all like dealing with name registration then I am going to need a lot of it! Moving forward, I choose not to be discouraged by the excessive wrinkles or grey hairs of the existing owners (cause lets face it if worse comes to worse with all my independent wealth I will be able to afford a few beauty treatments). Instead, I‘ll keep my business vision in the forefront of my mind, keep the starry eyed innocence (it’s a good look) put my faith hat on (purple by the way), and wear it with pride. Wish me luck!

Coaching – I Have Seen The Competition And It Is Me

Posted in basketball on August 28th, 2010 by Valeri – Be the first to comment

If you are on online business owner you need to ask yourself, “Who is my competition?” If you’re like every other self-respecting business owner you have scoured the Internet locating other sites that sell similar merchandise or services. And like most businesses you learn what you can from these sites and make use of what you learn in relation to products, pricing and presentation.

Who is your competition? Is it the box store down the street that can sell similar products for less than you can acquire yours? If you’re like most business owners you seek creative ways to market your product in a manner that accentuates the unique features and qualities that can’t be duplicated in traditional box store purchases.

But are box stores your competition? Are other online stores your competition? Who is your competition?

You are! You are your own competition.

As a business owner you need to pay attention to what other businesses do (both online and in brick and mortar counterparts). In the end, however, you are in competition with yourself first and foremost.

You may or may not be able to match or beat another businesses in price, but you can work hard to do better in business this year than you did last by offering more competitive pricing or exemplary customer service. Work hard to outperform yourself.

Think for a minute about all the things that you are doing better at this year than last. Don’t limit your thinking to financial data.

Are you better able to handle administrative duties this year than last?

Are you establishing new networks between business associates and customers?

Are you implementing new marketing strategies that you didn’t know about last year?

Are you streamlining customer service by developing autoresponders and faster product fulfillment options?

Are you making sure your website remains fresh and inviting in a way that you weren’t able to last year?

Are you more passionate about your business this year as you were last year?

Are you responding to customer requests for certain products and eliminating others that do not sell as well?

Are you standing still or are you taking steps of forward progress?

I could ask dozens of additional questions, but the point of this exercise is to encourage you to spend more time competing with yourself than with another business. If you make this your goal you will most often find greater business success.

When you compete against yourself you are better able to learn what you can from mistakes you’ve made in the past and improve for the future. When you focus too much on what someone else is doing you are less able to evaluate what mistakes you have (or are) making. In the end you may not have the ability to be objective about how you are doing as a business because you are spending too much time concentrating on a business you don’t own.

Maybe this is the year you can start a new and healthy competition – with yourself.

Soccer Psychological Coaching – Techniques and Strategies

Posted in basketball on August 22nd, 2010 by Valeri – Be the first to comment

With the individual and team goals set, the actual training begins. Physical training is not to be undermined but the important cognitive skills to be emphasized include relaxation techniques and task concentration. Handing down specific relaxation techniques such as breathing exercises and progressive muscle relaxation is more effective than just telling them to relax. Equipping them with applicable means to follow your instructions instead of just expecting them to comply on every command is more effective.

Relaxation technique is crucial to performance because stress and anxiety is inevitable in every competition so the individual members should learn to handle this. Many distractions also arise in actual games so the members should learn how to block out unnecessary factors including negative feelings from inside and just stay focused on the actual task. They have to learn not to try controlling the uncontrollable factors during the game and not to put too much emphasis on winning or losing as this is the root cause of most of the players’ stress. These require paramount mental effort and so, an adaptation of appropriate mind set is necessary. Staying positive about one’s abilities and having faith in his teammates is one. Teaching the “here and now” rule is another which basically means anything that is not part of the task should be set aside. Learning the connection between stress and level of performance would probably be helpful too. The higher your stress is, the lower your performance goes.

A good coach should also be able to help the players understand that there is nothing to lose by trying instead of opting to be paralyzed with anxiety. And last but not the least, conditioning the athlete’s minds to view adversity in a positive way, however difficult, will ease the transition from being a novice player to a more professional and successful athlete.

Christian Life Coaching – Getting Success From Habits

Posted in basketball on August 19th, 2010 by Valeri – Be the first to comment

We create habits to help us establish a familiar world, and then rely on them to help us establish control. We would probably list these habits as good habits. all of us have routines that are make up our character and what we do each day.

Most of our behavior is demonstrated by our habits. But, what is a habit? Organically, habits are created through non-stop, electrical impulse signals to our mind, which the sensory nerves carry from our hearing, touch, vision taste and smell to the data processing area of our brain over our lifetime. Cognitively, habits are a repeated, often unconscious pattern of behavior that is acquired through successive repetition, an established disposition of the mind or character.

It is paramount to admit that some of those habits are not good for us. We all have habits or routines that are part of our make up and what we do each day – but there comes a time when we need to accept that some of those habits are detrimental for us. Everyone has some habits in their lives that robs their day-to-day lifestyle of a little (or a lot) of prosperity.

You may see that to successfully manage habit changes, breaking bad habits require exchanging them with new appropriate ones. Natural bad habits often include: over scheduling, over spending, over eating, and even over analyzing. We often believe that we can’t overcome an area because it is a “habit,” and methodically habits are hard to break.

How do they habits get started? We train ourselves with bad habits as written in 2 Peter 2:14, we are insatiable for sin [we] train our hearts in greed.

Bad habits are inherited from parents and grandparents. 1 Peter 1:18, shows that the useless behavior patterns that were passed down from your ancestors. But, when Christ heals you from them He makes it possible to live the remainder of your life no longer following human desires, but following the will of God.

We get them from allience. Paul warns us in 1 Corinthians 15:33, Dont be misled, bad companions corrupt good habits. Further, he notes, There are some who, out of habit formed in idolatry, still eat food as if it were offered to idols, and because their conscience is weak, they are sinning. So it is obvious that even after good habits are developed being around those who are of conflicting behavior can destroy them.

What do we need to do about our patterns?

5 steps to change an unhealthy habit into a healthy one

The first step in altering a sinful pattern is to stop trying to break it and create a plan to change it. A habit implies that a learning has resulted in behavior that occurs so automatically that the one doing it does not have to plan this action or behavior. Often you do not realize what you are doing until after it is done. You must set in place a method to identify this undesirable behavior or action.

Two, the undesirable trait is like a hole in your personality. It needs to be filled with something that is good and profitable. The Holy Spirit by His Word trains in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16) so that new behaviors become habits in place of old ones. Determine what you will do in place of the habit you intend to redeem.

Three, the time when you are most likely to engage in sinful patterns are when you are stressed, hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. You can remember this with the acronym Shalt as in shalt not! Keep watch on these moments as this is when your conscience be most weak.

Four, we were created to have relationships. Having a friend you can be real and honest with is remarkably important in changing habits. Talk with that person and ask them to keep you accountable regarding your desired change. Ask them to question you about your progress in making your change when you two talk or meet.

Lastly, practice! Hebrews 5:14, reveals to us that mature Christians are those whose faculties have been trained by practice to do distinguish good from evil. Confirm a practice that exercises the good replacement. Remember — It took time to develop your bad habit, so it will take time to replace it. Is there some habit or behavior that you keep struggling with and constantly grumble about it?

I bet you are ready to change your bad habits with better ones.

Career Coaching: What Do You Want Your Life To Look Like?

Posted in basketball on August 17th, 2010 by Valeri – Be the first to comment

Before you start thinking about your ideal work, dream job, new career, the very first step you need to take is to describe your ideal life.

Ask yourself the following questions :

”What do I want my life to look like?”
”How would I like to spend my days?”
”What would my ideal life be like?”

It is extremely important to answer these questions before you evaluate various work options. For example, you might want to open a Bed&Breakfast but if you don’t like dealing with people, opening a B&B is a bad choice. If you love staying at home, working in an office where you need to spend 40 hours a week won’t make you happy. You need to make sure that the work you will choose fits into your ideal life.

Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. Relax your body and mind. Take as much time as you need to write down your answers. Make sure to write with a sense of excitement and passion! If you don’t like writing, you can invite your friends over and describe your ideal life to them (Ask them to give you lots of encouragement!).

Don’t be held back for a moment by thoughts like “It’s not possible” ! Don’t censor; just let it flow. Imagine you are living each day to the fullest!

Here are some ideas to prompt you:

- Where do you see yourself living? In a big city/small town/countryside ? Are you living in a warmer/colder climate? Another city ? Another country?

- What time do you get up in the morning?

- Are you living on your own or with someone? How many people are you living with? Who are they? How much time are you spending with them?

- Do you have an active social life?

- Do you want to be based in one place or travel? How much traveling would you like to be doing?

- Do you want to spend most of your time outside or do you prefer to stay at home?

- Imagine it is a Tuesday in a year’s time. What are you doing from the moment you get up to the moment you go to bed?

- What do you want to experience day to day?

Create a multi-media picture of each aspect of your life and ask yourself, “Do I love what I see/hear/feel?”

If not, you might be holding yourself back with limiting thoughts. Remove all limits and allow yourself to dream about the kind of life you want to live. Now, go back and do the same exercise. Do it again and again until you feel satisfied, inspired and excited about your life!

Only after you finish this exercise with a clear vision of what you want your life to look like, you can take the next steps to find your ideal work, the work that will allow you to have the life you really want.

High Ticket Coaching Selling – Announcing 4 Steps to Advance With High Ticket Coaching Selling

Posted in basketball on August 13th, 2010 by Valeri – Be the first to comment

When you know key secrets to attract clients with money to pay you for your coaching and consulting services, you can really enjoy lucrative high ticket selling success. One key to generating high profits with coaching or consulting is to appropriately use keywords. Appropriately using specific, niche-perfect keywords, you trigger traffic to your site. The search engines are stupid, remember. They do what they are told to do. When you understand and use the appropriate niche specific keywords, those stupid search engines can provide you with some great results. So, learn how to use keywords, keyword phrases and longtail keywords to your advantage. People with serious problems surfing the ?net 24/7 are looking for you already. So that’s good. Announcing four steps to advance with high ticket coaching selling. Learn more.

1. As you start writing, compare keywords using a free online keyword tool. Decide which ones to use. Use keywords like you are in your niche market’s mind. When you speak to the target market’s mindset, you’ll use really specific keywords. Do a written exercise here. Write out all the words and phrases you think describe the prospect’s problem that you know the complete solution to.

Use keywords that also describe the ideal end result of a client using your high ticket coaching service. For example, suppose a person is in coma. The caregiver is doing the search obviously because the person in coma is, well, in a coma. That’s a ha ha there.

Anyway, a keyword phrase the caregiver might use could be “help for coma.” But, she might also write “drowning” which is related to the cause of the coma. The more you know about your niche’s mindset, the more you can know the right keywords to put on your site in content and in the title and meta tags. The more you know, the more you increase you chances of getting on the first page of the search engines which of course is good for your business.

2. To understand the correct key words to use for your niche market, you might consider doing brain storming with other people. What other possible terms could be useful terms to get you connected to the greatest links?

3. Remember to stay very focused on looking for key words that are closely associated with the mindset of the person doing the search. Ask yourself what is this person thinking? What solution are they looking for? Write it out on paper to see ideas about looking for other appropriate keywords.

4. Stay focused on thinking about keywords relative to your target’s mindset. Remember you’re like a bee to honey when you write keywords about the target’s mindset. That’s a very tight targeted way to get connected to your target through the search. Look at the keyword search stats a little bit differently. Think “high searches” equals “great markets.” Remember your online marketing for high ticket items is about building meaningful business relationships. People buy from people they know and trust.

By the way… are you a coach, consultant, entrepreneur, or speaker, who is tired of getting paid less than you are worth for your coaching and consulting?

Discover How Coaching Unlocks Learning to Help You Reach Your Full Potential!

Posted in basketball on August 12th, 2010 by Valeri – Be the first to comment

How to unlock learning through coaching
Inside our minds we all have a door to personal growth and development. The door is locked and the key is on the inside so what can we do to turn that key and open up our lives and our business to greater achievements?

Most organisations invest in learning and development for their people. I’m sure yours does too. But what value do you get from that investment?

What lasting benefits do you see? What impact does training have on your people and your business? The chances are that you don’t know. Or, you may be thinking “absolutely none!”

Ask anyone who has ever attended a training event what they can remember. Many of them will tell you that, within an hour of leaving the training room and heading for home, they have already forgotten at least 50% of what they learned. A month after a training event around 80% of learning has been lost.

Even if you’re not very good at numbers, it’s easy to see how the cost of training, compared to the percentage of real learning that takes place and the impact this has on the business, is money down the drain.

How much has your organisation spent on training in the past 2 years? How many in-house courses have you run? How many people have you packed off to external, open courses with great expectations? How disappointed have you been with the outcomes? What have you got to show for all that time and money?

Here is an example of how training alone leaves that door to learning firmly locked! Paul has just returned from a Team Building course. For 3 days he has been saturated with information about what makes an effective team and how to transform his mediocre bunch of staff into a high performing task force.

He has joined in with the group exercises, taken part in role plays, wrestled with case studies, contributed to discussion, (spent far too much time at the bar!) and got to know some of the other managers on the course.

They had a bit of fun, had a few laughs and came away with mountains of material to refer to in the coming days and weeks, guaranteed to have them building magnificent teams.

It is now the morning after the course. Paul arrives at the office to find hundreds of attention seeking e-mails sitting forlornly in his in box. His diary is packed with meetings, conference calls, important deadlines and urgent matters that he couldn’t deal with while he was out of the office attending the course and which are now imperative.

One by one, his staff come knocking on the door, needing to see him, wanting a word, wondering if he has a few minutes to help them with a problem. His line manager drops in for a quick chat, stays for half an hour offloading her troubles and business woes and departs with a brief “Oh, by the way, hope the course went well and don’t forget that I need the quarterly report on my desk by 4-00pm tomorrow.” And so the week goes on. And the next week. And the week after that.

By the end of the month Paul has forgotten that he ever went on a Team Building training course! Ithas been a waste of the organisation’s money. but, even worse, he is still recovering from his 3 day absence from the office at one of the busiest times of the year.

Paul is very busy catching up, juggling priorities, fire fighting and keeping up the endless struggle with people and performance. The very thing that he went on the course to achieve – building a high performing, effective team, is now even further away than ever!

So what should have happened? What would have been a smart and simple way to ensure that Paul really learned from his expensive training course?

Let’s put the clock back to about 3 weeks before Paul attended his course and see how things could have been done differently. Paul and his line manager, Sarah, have a conversation about teamwork. They talk about how the team that Paul has recently inherited is underperforming and lacking in energy and motivation. He feels powerless to do anything about the situation and doesn’t know where to start.

They explore his learning and development needs as a manager and team leader and identify the Team Building course as a learning opportunity. They discuss the key areas of Paul’s management skills that the course will address and agree on 4 key learning points:

• understanding what he can do to work with his team to improve their individual and collective performance

• discovering the key ingredients of effective team work

• communicating with his team on what needs to change and how they can make those changes

• setting goals with the team and developing an action plan

Sarah makes an appointment to meet Paul 2 days after he returns from the course. At this meeting, they talk about what was covered on the course, what knowledge he has gained, what thoughts and ideas he has for how he can develop his team and whether the course has addressed the key learning points.

Sarah arranges for Paul to follow a coaching programme, working one to one with an executive coach who will help him to bring clarity and purpose to the way that he can apply what he has learned about Team Building.

With the support and encouragement of his coach, Paul begins to focus clearly on what he wants his team to be and do in the future, what goals they will work towards and where the team will be 6 months from now.

Over the next few weeks he spend an hour each week with his coach, sometimes meeting face to face, sometimes talking over the phone and with e-mail contact in between coaching sessions, exploring ways of re-building Paul’s team.

Through the positive, non-judgemental commitment that Paul received from his coach he has made excellent progress. He has opened up a dialogue within the team, he is involving team members in re-shaping the team’s purpose, helping them to contribute to the process of change and moving steadily towards creating a high performing, effective team.

Paul has found ways to use and apply the information that he gained on his training course, learning from his experiences, putting theory into practice and seeing his team grow and develop as individuals and as a cohesive working group. Coaching, in partnership with training, has resulted in Paul unlocking the door to his development and actively translating learning into building his team.

What Do you Want? Do you Know? This Months Coaching Tips for you and your Family, to Help you Decide What you Want!

Posted in basketball on August 11th, 2010 by Valeri – Be the first to comment

One of the biggest and most important steps in the Law of Attraction is knowing what you want. Do you know? Does your family know? Some people have a hard time figuring out what it is they really want. We tend to know what we don’t want…but not what we do want.

For example, I know I don’t want to fall down and crack my head, but when I think that way how do I act? I walk differently, more timidly, cautiously, and the next thing you know I fall and crack my….well, OK maybe not crack my head…..but I might at least bruise myself! So, I need to turn that thought into a positive instead of “don’t want to”, I want to be safe, confident and secure. Wow, now I’m walking totally differently and am much less likely to actually fall.

When I’m skiing I used to think like this a lot….and I ski completely differently when I think “I don’t want to fall and get hurt….and end up in the hospital, and need to get surgery, and then not be able to exercise, and not be able to ski, and then I’ll be lazy and gain weight and, and, and….can you see where my mind can go if I let it? That’s a lot of thinking for just going down a mountain. Man, I’m exhausted and I’m just sitting at my computer! Anyway, when I think I don’t want to fall, I ski like a complete dork, I can even get myself to start snow plowing on an expert slope, which is very dangerous and could lead to me falling and actually cracking my head. So, I change my thinking and enjoy the ride. What a rush! I am now attracting more confident, safe, and secure thoughts, which makes the whole day a blast. I leave the slopes pumped up and feeling like an amazing skier, which sounds a heck of a lot better then either crying on the slopes (which I have done) or going back to town in an ambulance. If you aren’t a skier and can’t relate to this analogy, fill in the blank with something that can be scary for you at times. Doesn’t it work the same way for that too?

We, and when I say we I mean humans, tend to go to negative statements. The “I don’t want to…”. Watch your words, can you find that in yourself? I know I can. It’s something I am constantly trying to work on, especially with kids. Here are a few steps to take to figure out what you really want and how to ask for it. If you reprogram your language, your thought patterns will follow along.

Step 1: Complaining Time!

That’s right, let them rip! I want you to complain, on paper, about everything you can think of to complain about. Here are a few topics to write (complain) about.

1. Money

2. Relationships

3. Family

4. Work

5. Your body

6. Your health

7. Free time

8 The Government

9. World matters

Etc………

If you can complain about it, write it down. That is the thinking that brings you more of it! The complaining is not going to be an everyday or every moment thing. This is just an exercise, so don’t go home and say “I’m supposed to complain, Loren the Life Coach told me to.” After you are done with this exercise I want you to stop complaining as much as possible, so get it out now, while you can.

Step 2: Write down what you don’t want, related to all of your complaints.

For example, if my complaint was, “I am so sick and tired of being tired!” Then, my I don’t want statement would be, “I don’t want to be tired.” For every complaint you wrote write an “I don’t want” statement.

Step 3: Turn them around!

Take your “I don’t” statements and turn them around into the opposite. Example, my “I don’t want to be tired” statement turned into the opposite, which is “I want to have energy” or “I want to be energetic”. Write it down and then turn it around!

Step 4: You already have it!

This is the last step. Take your “I want,” statements and turn them into an

“I am” or “I have” statement. Coming from the space of already having it, is an abundant mind set, which will have you actually having it in no time. If you already feel like you have it, just the way you want it, you will act differently. You will be abundant and powerful. For example, “I want to be energized”, turns into “I am energized!” Now, doesn’t that sound more powerful? Wow, I am energized! I have enough energy to do everything I want to do and more. When I start thinking this way and feeling affirmative, I become energized. Just writing this article right at this moment, I now feel like I do have energy to do anything, and if that fades I will remind myself that I am energized and have energy.

Finish these steps with every statement on your list and read and feel like you already have them. Every night before bed and every morning when you wake up state those positive “I have” statements and watch the life that you always dreamed of unfold. You can try this activity with your family and see what everybody is truly wanting.

Well, I’m off to climb El Capitan now with all of my extra energy! Good luck to you all and happy attracting.

***As a side note: After writing this article and working on my energy statement, I truly did have a lot of extra energy…..I couldn’t even fall asleep last night, and got a lot of work done because of it. Last night I was up till midnight being productive. Wow! This stuff really works, so give it a go!

The Steps Behind Personal Development Coaching

Posted in basketball on August 10th, 2010 by Valeri – Be the first to comment

Changing your life for the better is not impossible. Run from anyone who tells you that you should just accept your lot in life. No one has to live a life that is less than what they want. A success principle can be applied to your career and personal life.

You may think that life is working against you and keeping you in a spot that is not what you want or dreamed of but it is possible to change all of that. It may require the use of personal development coaching, yet you can attain your goals and change; it is within your grasp.

Personal development coaching occurs in steps. Step one is to analyze your current living situation. No, this is not referring to where you live or with whom you cohabitate. It is about taking a good, long look at your life.

Are you happy with your workplace? Are you happy with your personal relationships? This is about taking an inventory or stock of your life and recognizing in what areas helpful, leadership mentoring could make a difference.

The second step involves telling your coach consultant what your goals are. He or she cannot tell you what you should aim for, that is your job to let them know what it is you want out of life.

Just remember to set reasonable goals. You may want to conquer a fear of heights or learn how to make the most out of relationships. It is okay to set a series of small goals rather than one large goal.

The third step is implementing a plan that involves life building exercises. Your coach can help you by pointing out areas where you could improve communication skills, management skills and even where your strong areas are versus dwelling on the negative aspects of your life. It is time to take full responsibility and start working towards your aspirations.

Step four is the final part of the plan. It is now time to start implementing the changes that you will need to make in order to succeed and make your end objectives a reality. Personal development coaching comes full circle and you can finally see how you really want things to be. Your coach will prove to be a valuable asset in this learning process and can provide you with the appropriate motivation in order to see things through to completion. Good luck on your journey!

Coaching For Golf – Are You Struggling To Find The Benefits?

Posted in basketball on August 8th, 2010 by Valeri – Be the first to comment

You will find that many golfers are bombarded with opportunity’s to have coaching and have tips on how to improve their game from many different places under the sun. The thing that is most striking is the fact that the majority of these people seem to be unable to benefit from these tips.

You may wonder what the reason could be behind this?

Could it be that the tips given are not explained in enough detail? Or could it be that most golfers are unable to grasp the concepts being taught to them?
